He obtained his doctorate of political science at Jilin University in 2016. His research interests include State-building, Political Communicationas well as Contemporary Chinese Politics.He visited the University of Bremen as a Ph.D. student in 2014 which was funded by China Scholarship Council. During his one-year stay in Germany, he worked as a guest scientist at the Jean Monnet Center for European Studies at the University of Bremen. Cooperating with Prof. Ulrike Liebert, the head of CEuS, he taught a course named Government and Politics in the PRC for the undergraduate program of the Department of Political Science, which was also taken by a number of MA students at the University of Bremen in the summer term of 2015. Guo has published several articles addressing Chinese state capacity, state-society relations, political communication, and national identity. The title of his Ph.D. dissertation is Order, Inclusion, and Redistribution of Power: The State`s Political Integration of Private Entrepreneurs since the 1990s, and it is selected as an excellent Ph.D. thesis at Jilin University in 2017. His research is funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China.
