Recently, the Department of Information Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Department) has organized a series of special discussion meetings centered on the theme of the fifth educational teaching symposium of the school, aiming to discuss key issues in undergraduate education and teaching.

On the afternoon of June 1st, the Department jointly held a teaching material construction symposium with the Academic Affairs Office of the school, inviting Lu Xianhe, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Vice President of Tsinghua University Press, Wei Jiangjiang, President of the Computer and Information Branch, Bai Lijun, Chief Planning Editor, and Guo Sai to come to the school for discussion and exchange.

Lu Xianhe gave a report titled "Building Excellent Textbooks and Serving Talent Development", sharing why and how to build textbooks from four aspects: the significance of textbook construction, construction paths, hot issues, and construction cases. He expressed the intention to collaborate in areas such as curriculum system research, professional series textbooks, course group textbooks, characteristic textbooks, academic monographs, and digital teaching resource construction. Participating teachers discussed and exchanged views with Tsinghua University Press experts on various aspects of textbook publishing and promotion, from the perspectives of both readers and compilers. The Department reached consensus with Tsinghua University Press on publishing research reports and related textbooks on computer and electronic information related professional curricula.

On the afternoon of June 2nd, the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School jointly held a symposium and experience exchange on first-class course application with the Department and the Academic Affairs Office, inviting Professors Meng Xianghong from the Food Science and Engineering School, Liu Huea from the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School of China University of Petroleum (East China), and Sun Haofen from the Environmental and Municipal Engineering School of Qingdao Technological University to share their experiences.

Based on their years of experience in course construction, the three experts shared aspects including the application requirements and procedures, the background of first-class course construction, content, related policies and construction experience. They also engaged in lively discussions with the participating teachers, answering their questions in detail, helping teachers to clarify their ideas on first-class course construction and understand the application process and content. This provided guidance for the construction and application of national and provincial first-class courses, stimulating everyone's enthusiasm for course construction and reform. Through the discussion, the Department preliminarily determined this year's first-class course application plan.

On the morning of June 8th, the Department jointly held a symposium on engineering education and the construction of the Future Technology Institute with the Academic Affairs Office and the Teaching Support Center. Professor Lin Jian, the academic committee chairman of the Education Research Institute of Tsinghua University, the chief expert of the "Excellent Engineer Education Training Program" expert group of the Ministry of Education, and an expert of the "New Engineering Research and Practice Expert Group", as well as representative teachers from the Department attended the meeting.

After reporting on the construction plan for the Future Technology Institute, Lin Jian provided valuable opinions and suggestions on aspects such as optimizing the supporting disciplines of the Future Technology Institute, principles for the construction of various professional directions, mechanisms for contiguous cultivation of undergraduates, master's students, and doctoral students, and distribution plans for "research-study-production" practical teaching models. Additionally, Lin Jian conducted in-depth discussions with teachers from the Department on the relationship between graduation requirements and course achievement in Engineering Major certification, the construction of core course groups, the engineering backgrounds of course instructors, and internship base construction. The meeting generated clearer ideas and construction plans for the Future Technology Institute and new engineering disciplines, as well as for engineering program certification.

On June 9th, the Department jointly held a symposium on the "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition with the Academic Affairs Office and the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School, inviting Professor Song Dulei, the director of the Innovation Education Practice Center of the school, to attend. Over 60 teachers from the Department and the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School participated in the conference offline and online. Song Dulei gave a detailed explanation of the event schedule of the "Internet +" competition, especially for the main track of higher education, and provided opinions and suggestions on the cultivation of "Internet +" projects and the organization of contest. The participating teachers conducted discussions with great enthusiasm on the specifics of participating in the "Internet +" competition and expressed that they would actively prepare for the competition and make long-term planning and layout for the competition, selecting and cultivating contest projects, and completing the long-term construction of student teams and projects.

The four seminars focused on key aspects of undergraduate education and teaching, including textbook construction, first-class course construction, engineering education and the construction of the Future Technology Institute, innovation and entrepreneurship talent cultivation, and the "Internet +" college student innovation and entrepreneurship competition. By bringing together multiple professional forces from both inside and outside the university to discuss and collaborate, significant achievements were made. In the future, the Department will place greater emphasis on summarizing and discussing key issues in undergraduate education and teaching, to further promote the cultivation of innovative talents in the Department.
