Introduction

  

The Engineering Research Center was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on January 31, 2019. It is centered around the national marine strategic deployment with the goal of understanding and developing the ocean. It makes full use of Qingdao's advantages in oceanic scientific research and relies on the strong foundation and overall advantages of Ocean University of China, Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology, Qingdao Inspection Group Co., Ltd., and Qingdao Zhongyi Intelligent Security Research Institute Co., Ltd. to build a Chinese marine big data highland.

  

The Engineering Research Center relies on the strong capabilities and experience of Ocean University of China in marine big data intelligent analysis, mining, and processing technology, as well as the ultra-strong computing power, strong data aggregation, and industry service capabilities possessed by the national laboratory for marine science and technology. It establishes a complete marine big data chain covering real-time collection of raw data, intelligent processing of massive data, and accurate information product services.

  

With the outstanding advantages of Qingdao Inspection Group in the standardization of the marine big data system, systematic detection of sensing equipment, and comprehensive software testing capabilities, it has formed high-quality and high-efficiency marine big data information products. At the same time, relying on Qingdao's Zhongyi Intelligent Security Research Institute, it has established a sound security protection system to prevent data leakage or tampering and provide reliable protection for massive data.

  

Under the guarantee of a secure, accurate, comprehensive, and intelligent marine big data collection and processing system, the Engineering Research Center strives to become an internationally leading national engineering research center that is open for service and technology radiation. It leverages the advantages of industry, academia, and research, establishes dual highlands of data talent, comprehensively promotes the construction of the marine information comprehensive service industry, serves various fields such as marine defense, scientific research, economy, and people's livelihood, and promotes the implementation of the strategy of building a strong province and a strong country in the marine industry.

  

The Engineering Research Center is using the high-performance scientific computing and system simulation platform, supercomputing internet system, and other large-scale scientific devices and advantageous system resources of the national laboratory for marine science and technology to build an open sharing service platform for marine big data. It provides four types of information product service modes and five series of big data information service products: Transparent Marine Big Data, Blue Life Big Data, Deep Sea Polar Big Data, Engineering Material Big Data, and Blue Brain Big Data. The center provides networked, personalized, and accurate information services for individuals, enterprises, and government departments, creating a billion-level intelligent ocean information service industry.

  

In terms of hardware resources, it has established a marine big data processing center with a computing capacity of 35 PFlops and a storage capacity of 50PB, and realized a supporting quality and safety guarantee system, which efficiently serves the strategy of building a strong country in the marine industry.

  

In terms of data aggregation, it effectively aggregates global climate, marine hydrology, marine meteorology, marine basic elements, marine acoustics, light, electricity, magnetism, marine energy, marine ecology, and other field research, establishes a knowledge map of marine big data, forms a 10PB effective big data resource pool, and constructs a three-level knowledge system in the marine field.

  

In terms of marine information services, the center has established a marine big data standard system that covers the entire life cycle of marine big data, marine sensing equipment standards, security and confidentiality systems, and relevant software evaluation systems. It provides rich data products in the fields of transparent ocean, blue life, deep sea polar, marine engineering materials, and blue brain through fixed push, real-time response, active recommendation, exchange and sharing, and other service forms.
