Students from the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering has won the first prize in the 14th National College Student Information Security Contest.

On July 18th, 2021, the final of the 14th National College Student Information Security Contest Innovation and Practice Ability Competition ended at Harbin Institute of Technology. After two days of fierce competition, the team guided by Qu Haipeng, a teacher from the Fcaulty of Information Science and Engineering, Colledge of Computer Science and Technology , won the first prize with the fifth place in the national finals.
Our school sent a team composed of four members from the Blue-Whale Information Security Research Team: Wang Yuxiao, a undergraduate student majoring in Communication Engineering from class of 2018, Shi Rui, a master student majoring in Computer Science and Technology from class of 2020, Sun Yingli and He Xianglong, both undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science and Technology from class of 2019. The team advanced to the regional competition as the first place in the university selection on May 15th, 2021. They then advanced to the national finals as the third place in the East-North Division during the regional competition held in Hefei on June 18th to 19th, 2021. Finally, they won the first prize with the fifth place among 80 teams in the national finals held in Harbin on July 17th to 18th, 2021. Teacher Qu Haipeng was awarded the Excellent Instructor Award.
The Blue-Whale Information Security Research Team is a research-oriented team composed of graduate and undergraduate students under the guidance of teachers such as Qu Haipeng and Lin Xijun. The team is committed to exploring practical technical practices related to cryptography, network protocols, and computer system offensive and defensive confrontation. In recent years, the team has discovered more than 100 open-source software vulnerabilities and assisted in security updates. They have published academic papers in academic journals and conferences such as TIFS, TCS, Computer & Security, ISSRE and SANER. They have also shared their technical knowledge in industrial security conferences such as BlackHat and HITB. In terms of talent cultivation, the team has cooperated with Tencent, Baidu, Qi'anxin, and Changting for joint training between universities and enterprises, providing excellent information security talents for the country and society. The team has also hosted security competitions such as AutoPwn Sub-station Competition and QCTF jointly with partners such as Baidu Security and XCTF.
