CBHC
Our position in the marine sciences today has much to do with the vision and drive of physical oceanographer He Chongben. He is a famous marine educationalist and also known as the pioneer and founder of China’s marine sciences. Named after He, Chongben Honors College (CBHC) was founded in July 2019 within Ocean University of China (OUC) as an initiative to foster future leading scientists in marine sciences.
In Chinese, Chong（崇） means high and wide mountains, while Ben（本） refers to the foundation of trees. We hope CBHCers can be both ambitious and down-to-earth.
Study
We are featured by rigorous academics and incredibly talented students. Our faculties, academic advisors, scientific research mentors and class advisors are selected worldwide.
Each year, CBHC invites 50-80 top students of OUC at the end of their first semester and offers tailored undergraduate program of Marine Science. You are able to broaden your knowledge in geosciences before choosing among four specialized Options: Physical Oceanography, Marine Geology and Geophysics, Marine Chemistry and Environment, and Marine Biology, so that you can specialize in the areas of your greatest interest and also venture into overlapping scientific disciplines.
While emphasizing understanding of basic knowledge, we provide intensive training of English language and computer programming. As a CBHC student, you’ll have the opportunity to lead at least one research program, in which you are able to work shoulder to shoulder with OUC faculty. You are encouraged to go abroad for short-term exchange programs, high-level academic conferences, and summer schools. You will also have a chance to get on board of a scientific research vessel of the university for marine science study.

Founded in July 2019, CBHC is committed to developing the next generation of researchers, scientists and academics through collaboration across disciplines.
Basic Science is intricate but fascinating. It is a study of theory, a challenge to the foundations, and a quest for the unknown. When basic science embraces the ocean, beautiful blue flowers will bloom.
The vast ocean is a cradle of life, a treasure house of resources, and a regulator of climate. Caring for the ocean, understanding the ocean, and developing knowledge on the ocean is not only the demand of building China into a strong maritime country, but also the trend of human development.
Guided by “creativity and innovation, taking the lead in marine science”, CBHC is the pioneer of undergraduate education reform of OUC. We emphasize both cross-discipline and basic theory. We advocate practical teaching and independent study for students’ all-round development.
CBHC is dedicated to prepare you for both your future life and career. Go facing the challenges in the ocean and contributing to the progress of mankind. CBHC will be the home port of your expedition to the sea.
